Vernon Delaware

Vernon Delaware, of Pottstown, passed away at home on September 28, 2017. He was born June 6, 1947 to Bertha Delaware Jacobs and Harry M. Jacobs. He lived his younger years in Devon and attended Conestoga High School. Vernon was a member of the US Army 3rd Squadron 5th US Calvary “Black Knights” and was stationed in the Long An province during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Medal. After his tour in Vietnam he returned home, married and settled in Bridgeport, PA.

Vernon was a proud veteran and was involved in many veteran organizations. For many years he was an active member of the VRW, filling many roles, including Commander. He was also involved with the Vietnam Veterans Association, and remained in close contact with the men he served with, and attended yearly reunions of his Infantry Division. He never lost his love of helicopters and would often go on charter flights around the area.

Vernon was a skilled mechanic who loved everything about cars. He enjoyed working on cars, restoring classics and attending car shows. He spent the bulk of his life employed at Gran Turk Equipment Company, Bridgeport, PA, recently retiring after 30 years. In his spare time he loved working on projects around the home, listening to music, reading books and watching old western movies.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Brenda Harris and brother William Delaware.

He is survived by his partner of 20 years Faith Byrd of Pottstown, Pa, daughter Sheri (& Sean) Cummins of Plymouth Meeting, grandchildren, Owen, Aaron and Sinclaire, two sisters Deborah Delaware of Devon and Daphne (James) Ockimey of Lansdowne.

His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 10:00 AM from the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home 300 Fayette Street, Conshohocken, PA 19428.

Friends may call on Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home.

Interment will take place in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, PA.
