Obituary of Bernard J. Artayet

Bernard J. Artayet, age 87, of East Norriton, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

He was born in Hasparren, France on March 19, 1938, the son of the late Dominique Artayet and the late Catherine (Larre) Artayet. He was the brother of Madeleine, Salvat, Jeannot, Marie-Therese, Nicole, Raymond and Mayie. 

Bernard lived in St. Hubert, Quebec, Oswego, NY and Leesburg, FL before recently moving to East Norriton, PA. He was a Pipefitter/Welder union journeyman from Union Local 173 in Oswego, NY and Local 144 in Montreal, QC. He was not one to not accept a project request or a need from his locals, working on Nuclear Power plants in MI, OH, MD, NJ, NH, NY, MA, etc and throughout Canada including the Alaskan pipeline, Hudson Bay, Labrador, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, etc. Bernard enjoyed Basque culture, including planning, organizing and supporting Basque gatherings all over Quebec, even inviting and hosting a Basque PeeWee hockey team to play in a local Montreal tournament as well as many Basque musicians and historians to Quebec. Bernard lived the Basque culture, enjoying listening, dancing, singing and playing its music as well as frequently returning to southern France to visit his Family. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, traveling reading, cycling, working around his houses, woodworking and gardening. 

He is survived by his wife, Felicite M. Artayet (Soucy) of East Norriton, PA; four sons, Alain (Karen) Artayet of Douglasville, GA, Michael Artayet of Mechanicsville, Maryland; Daniel (Gail) Artayet of Henrietta, NY and Francois (Susan) Artayet of Collegeville, PA. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

His Memorial Service will be held on Tue., June 10th at 4:00 PM at the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 West Main Street, Trappe, PA 19426.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Tue., June 10th afternoon from 3:30 PM until 4:00 PM prior to the service.  

Interment will be private.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
