Obituary of Elwood O. Whitley

Elwood O. Whitley, 90, of the Spring Mill Section of Whitemarsh Twp., PA passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Einstein Montgomery Hospital of East Norriton. Born in Concord, NC on April 21, 1924, Elwood has lived in the Spring Mill section of Whitemarsh Twp., PA since 1949, formerly of Conshohocken, PA. He was a member Messiah United Methodist Church, where he was a former sexton. Elwood served in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of Fritz Lodge F. & A. M. No. 308 of Conshohocken, PA, and worked with John Wood Steel. Elwood enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Elwood was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy M. (Dutill) Whitley, as well as his parents, Charles L. Whitley and Bertha Mae (Long). Survivors include his daughter Dawn A. (& Chuck ) Hoffman of Conshohocken, PA, his son Wayne (& Elaine) Whitley of Cartersville, VA, his brother Reece Whitley of West Norriton, PA, and his sister Grace Marie D'Orazio of Gilbertsville, PA. He is also Survived By 5 Grandchildren. His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 10:00 AM from the Messiah United Methodist Church, 527 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, Pa 19444 with The Rev. Thomas Ebersole officiating. Friends may call on Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the church. Interment will be at George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting, PA.
