Obituary of Henry S. Ely

Henry S. "Hal" Ely  

 

Henry S. "Hal" Ely, 89, of Honeybrook, PA passed away Monday, November 25, 2019.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 2, 1930, the son of the late Claude and the late Anna ( Renton ) Ely.

He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church of Norristown, Pa, where he was married 59 years ago.

Hal served in the US Army.  And he worked as an Accountant last retiring from Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. 

Hal also was a member of the Norristown Chorale and West Norriton Cats bowling league.

He also was a baseball umpire for 47 at years at many levels.  Hal was an avid Phillies fan and sang the national Anthem for the Phillies 7 times and many other minor league teams including the Reading Phillies. He also spent several years volunteering with the Civil Air Patrol, and flew search and rescue missions across the region. 

He was the husband for 59 years of Katherine ( Phillips ) Ely.

Survivors include Wife Katherine Ely of Honeybrook, Pa, Son Donald G. (& Dianna) Ely of Clyde, NC, Son James E. (& Rose) Ely of Norristown, Pa, Son Andrew C. (& Nina) Ely of Norristown, Pa a Brother Claude Ely of Florida.  Also survived by his grandchildren D. Phil Ely, Andi Ely, Becky Pendergast, Chris Ely, Sarah Strauss, & Clare Ely, and 7 Great Grandchildren.

His Service will be held Monday, December 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 535 Haws Avenue, Norristown, PA 19401.

Friends may call on Monday, December 2, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the church. 

Interment will take place in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia, PA.
