Nelson M. Williams  

 

Nelson Markley Williams, 93, of Lafayette Hill, PA passed away Friday, May 1, 2020.

 

Nelson was born in Plymouth Township, PA on January 27, 1927, the son of the late Daniel C. and the late Charlotte ( Markley ) Williams.

 

A graduate of Conshohocken High School, Class of ’45,  he entered the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator in 1945 serving proudly in the Naval Reserve until 1954. He attended The Gibson Institute, Temple University and Penn State and was a member of the National Association of Accountants.  After working for Lee Tire and Rubber Co. early in his career, Nelson joined the staff of Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA in 1965 and retired in 1989 as Vice-President of Business Affairs. He was a member of the East Norriton Township Municipal Authority and served on the advisory board of the Berman Museum at Ursinus as well as the board of the Community Music School in Trappe, PA. His advice, wisdom and dedication were always appreciated. He was a 32° Master Mason and Past Master of Charity Lodge #190 F&AM of Norristown. An active member of the First Baptist Church of Norristown, Nelson earned the respect of the congregation and cared deeply for the well-being of his fellow congregants. An art enthusiast and collector of folk art, Nelson researched local artists, especially David Ellinger, whose life and work he highlighted in Folk Art magazine. Nelson enjoyed traveling and joined friends on many trips to Europe where he was able to pursue interests in British history and researching family roots in England.

 

As the last surviving of ten children, Nelson was the anchor of his family and respected and admired by everyone who knew him. He is survived by nieces Juanita Lilick of Bridgeport, PA, Judith Musselman of Watertown NY, Charlotte Novak of Boynton Beach FL, Cynthia Hilghman of Lantana FL and Beverly Culp of Norristown. Also, nephews Roger Williams of Mission Viejo, CA and Winfield Culp of Plymouth Meeting, PA in addition to many Great Nieces & Nephews.

 

His Memorial Service and Interment will be at a later date.
