Bernadette Melvin

Obituary of Bernadette Melvin

Bernadette Melvin, age 75, of Swarthmore, PA passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at her home.

She was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 30, 1945, the daughter of the late Vincent and Gilda (Flacche) Caruso.

Bernadette has been living in Swarthmore for five years, formerly of Havertown and West Philadelphia.  She worked for 15 years in the Adult Day Treatment Unit at Philadelphia Psychiatric Hospital, serving in resocialization and remotivation.  She also worked in Outreach for Keystone Mercy Health Plan.

She enjoyed traveling and seeing all the world had to offer, making friends everywhere she went. She knew something about everything and loved sharing information and advice with everyone she knew. She had a keen eye for the finer things in life but would only indulge if she found a good deal. She enjoyed theatre, show tunes and dancing but she always had to lead. She was funny, witty and sarcastic. She loved to entertain, always sharing her Italian traditions and oh what a cook! Anyone who entered her home was welcomed and made to feel like family. Ah family, that was always most important. Her family was her pride and joy. She was love. So since we all know she loved her cocktails, please raise a glass to the most amazing, strong woman. Cheers, Salute, Cin Cin!

She is survived by two daughters, Beth (& Brian) Dardine and Stacy (& Anthony) Pontello, both of Swarthmore; two granddaughters, Sabrina (& Colin) Phillips and Angelina Pontello; and two great granddaughters, Rosalie and Zara Phillips.

Due to the current pandemic, services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bernadette's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by clicking here.
