Obituary of Evelyn Jane Peoples

Evelyn “Evey” Jane Peoples, age 77, of Harleysville, PA passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020 due to COVID-19.

She was born on April 28, 1943 in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania to Jacob and Thelma (Leonard) Sweigart.  She graduated from Upper Moreland High School and spent most of her adult life working in supermarkets.  She worked at Clemens Market in Blue Bell until it closed in 2006.  Most recently she worked at Giant in Blue Bell until April 2020 when she reluctantly stopped due to the global pandemic.

Evey was a pro at multi-tasking.  She could famously crochet, read a book and watch television simultaneously.  She crocheted countless blankets.  She made blankets for friends and family, for baby showers and for nursing home patients.  Evey enjoyed reading romance novels and mysteries.  She was an avid bowler.  She and her husband met bowling in a church league in Willow Grove.  Later they bowled at Facenda Whitaker Lanes in East Norriton where they made many friends over the years.  Evey served as the long-time secretary for the “mixed doubles” league, calculating and tracking each bowler’s weekly scores and averages.  She also bowled in a women’s league with gregarious group of ladies.  They bowled in tournaments all over the country and had great fun in the process.  Evey was always willing to help a friend or co-worker in need.  She loved to socialize and made fast friends wherever she went.  She also enjoyed going to the casino to play the slots, and by all accounts was luckier than the average person.  She even won a car a few years back.

Evey is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert A. Peoples; two daughters, Leigh (& Russell Puleo) Peoples of Norristown, Pennsylvania and Brenda (& Walter) Harrington of Tucson, Arizona; stepson, Robert (& Lori) A. Peoples, Jr. of Green Lane, Pennsylvania; brother, Charles (& Dolores) Sweigart of Mission Viejo, California; and six grandchildren, Michelle Peoples, Terisa (& Michael) Shoremount, Alex Peoples, Dante Puelo, Giovanni Puleo and Zoe Harrington.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Ernest and Theodore Sweigart.

Due to the pandemic services will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Salvation Army.
