Obituary of Virginia I. Smith

Virginia I. "Jinny" Smith, age 99 years and 8 months and 17 days, of West Norriton Twp., PA passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at her home.

She was born in Cumberland, Maryland on December 7, 1921, the daughter of the late Frederick and Marie (Desmond) Hesser.

Jinny has been living in West Norriton for over 70 years and was a parishioner of Visitation B.V.M. RC Church.  She worked as a Claims Manager for the former Provident Indemnity Insurance Co. and later as a Bookkeeper for Norristown Transportation Co.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, cleaning, and decorating for all of the holidays, especially St. Patrick's Day.  She also enjoyed time spent at her mountain home in the Poconos.   

She was the wife of the late Francis J. "Bob" Smith.

She is survived by her three daughters, Barbara A. (& Clifford) Kingsley of West Norriton, Patricia M. (& Nicholas) Chermela of Lansdale, and Bonnie R. Geist (the late Theresa McCue) of West Norriton; brother, Frederick Hesser, Jr.; five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  

Along with her husband and parents, Jinny was preceded in death by three siblings, William, Gloria and Donald Hesser.  

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 10:30 AM from Visitation B.V.M. RC Church, 196 North Trooper Road, Norristown, PA 19403.

Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Tuesday evening, August 31, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday morning, September 1, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 9:50 AM, at the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 19 East Germantown Pike, East Norriton, PA 19401.  The family respectfully requests that you maintain social distancing and masks are required for the viewing.  

Entombment will take place in St. Patrick's Mausoleum, Norristown, PA.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
