Obituary of Evelyn M. Weidman

Evelyn M. Weidman

Evelyn (Morgan) Weidman, 95, of North Cape May, NJ passed away peacefully Monday, March 13, 2023.

She has been living in North Cape May, NJ for the last 10 years, formerly of Conshohocken and Germantown where she was born and raised.

She was born in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pa on September 12, 1927, the daughter of the late Edward C. and the late Evelyn (Carr) Morgan.

She was the second daughter of four children.  Her siblings were Marjorie Elizabeth, Jane Suzanne and Edward Charles, Jr.

Evelyn graduated from Germantown High School in 1944 and began to follow her dream of a nursing career.  Evelyn was a hard worker earning money at Young's candy and as a butcher at Acme Market and eventually became a candy striper at Germantown Hospital.  She continued pursuing her education over the years in between raising her six children.

Evelyn met William Edward Weidman at Willow Grove Amusement Park in 1950.  It was love at first sight.  They were married on June 26, 1951.  Soon after they started their family.  They had six children Evelyn Alice, William Edward, Jr., Elizabeth Esther, Thomas Morgan, Philip Andrew and Paul Edgar.

A devoted mother, Evelyn was active with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Girls Friendly Society of the Episcopal Church, and in her church St. Lukes of Germantown.  In between raising her children Evelyn attended Montgomery County Community College, Gwynedd Mercy University, Cabrini University, Villanova University and Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences, first obtaining her LPN, then her RN and finally earned her BS in Nursing in 1990.

Eveyln worked as a nurse at several hospitals including Germantown Hospital and Roxborough Hospital as well as Norristown State Hospital.  She eventually worked her  way up to Supvisory position as the Psychiatric Nursing Manager and Head RN administrator at Norristown State hospital where she finally retired at age 80.

After retiring Evelyn kept herself busy volunteering at Montgomery Hospital in Norristown, helping with the food kitchen at St. John's Episcopal Church in Norristown, she served on the vestry at Calvary Episcopal Church in Conshohocken, working at the Borough Election Polls for several years, and helping out at the Holiday House in Cape May, NJ.

Eveyn fulfilled another dream of owning a home in Cape May when she purchased a small cottage and eventually relocated there.

Evelyn was a life-long member of the Girl's Friendly Society and a member of the VFW in Cape May.

Evelyn loved to bake and you could always count on her to donate cakes and her specialty, banana bread for any occasion.

She lived by the Golden Rule "Do onto others as they would do unto you".  Her life was a living example of compassion, service, determination, enthusiasiam, and above all love for her family.

Along with her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her siblings.

Evelyn is survived by her six children and their spouses, 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
