Obituary of Burton D. Smith, Sr.
Burton D. Smith Sr., 76, husband of Donna M. (Eberhardt) Smith, Bechtelsville, Berks County, died July 14, 2023 in Allentown, PA.
"Burt" was born on January 13, 1947, on Ann Street in Norristown, PA to the son of the late Warren L. Smith Sr. and Doris Ruth (Hertzog) Smith. He is survived by his wife, Donna M. (Eberhardt) Smith, daughter Kathleen S. Loughery, (Rob) of Bedminster, son Burton D Smith Jr., of Woodridge, IL,. Daughter Amy S. Feliciani, (Mike) of Telford, stepson Neil D. Eberhardt, (Barbara) of Northampton, brother Peter Smith, of Sanatoga, brother John K. Smith, (Dana) of Pottstown, brother Kenneth Smith of Reading, sister Regina Whitley, (Charles) of Conshohocken, seven grandchildren; Taylor, Vivian, Grace, Evelyn, Amelia, Isabelle, Jack, and five great grandchildren, Emma, Luke, Kelly, Baker, and Aurora.
He was predeceased by his wife, Linda (Moister) Smith, brother Warren L. Smith Jr., (Gerrie), sister Anna E. Phillips, sister Billie Marie Feliciano, brother Bruce J. Smith, brother Patrick M. Smith, and sister-in-law (Bonnie).
Burt graduated from Bishop Kenrick in Norristown, enlisted in the United States Air Force, receiving the Honorable Discharge during the Vietnam War. He attended West Chester University and graduated "Cum Laude" with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He worked at Smith Line and French in Swedeland, Hale Fire Pump Company in Conshohocken, Plymouth Township Police, and Upper Providence Township Police in Montgomery County, where he retired. He was a member and Past President of Montgomery County, Lodge 14, Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of the American Legion in Souderton, the Hogans in Allentown, and Pike Township Sportsman's Association in Oley. During his youth, he was a member of Saint Frances of Assisi Boy Scout Troop 268, received the Eagle Scout Award with Bronze Palm, the Valley Forge Trail Medal, and the Order of the Arrow.
Burt enjoyed traveling to various states with his wife, Donna, especially Alaska, Utah, Arizona, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, Louisiana, and Maine. He loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking the Appalachian Trail and climbing Mt. Washington. He was especially fond of the hunting trips to Ontario and New Brunswick, Canada during the fall with his friend for black bear. He loved his family fiercely and was always very protective of them.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 10:30 AM from the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 W. Main St., Trappe, PA 19426. Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Tuesday morning from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Funeral Home.
Interment will take place in Coventryville Cemetery.
