Obituary of Cynthia L. Telegadis

Cynthia L. Telegadis

Cynthia Louise (Rys) Telegadis, 71, of North Wales, PA passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 23, 1952, the daughter of the late Edward Rys and the late Jeanette (Avery) Damato. She loved being from Brooklyn, had a strong “Brooklyn accent” that she was known and loved for, frequently leaving the ending “r” off words and her long “o”.  She met the love her life, Frank E. Telegadis, while living in Brooklyn, and married into a large Greek family.  She frequently expressed how she fell in love with the Orthodox faith and proudly converted to Greek Orthodoxy, christened by her Godmother, Georgiana Telegadis Del Busto. She was the most loyal and devout Orthodox Christian, taking her kids to church every Sunday, teaching Sunday School, leading church volunteer efforts, participating in Philoptochos activities, and much more.  She also embraced the Greek culture, learning to make delicious spanakopita and Greek pastries and getting her kids involved in Greek language and dance classes.

Cynthia and Frank moved to Staten Island, NY, for a few years and had three children, Alexis, Tanya, and Peter. The family finally settled into a home in Middletown, NJ, in 1985, where they lived for twenty years. Cynthia enjoyed hosting parties and lounging on floats in the backyard pool.  She later moved to Midlothian, VA, where she and Frank decorated a beautiful home, made good friends and drove around in a red convertible, living out their empty-nest situation.  After Frank’s passing, she made her way back up to Pennsylvania to be closer to family, where she took residence of a home in North Wales. She was an active member of her neighborhood community and was known for helping others and playing cards.  She would commonly be seen walking her dogs, first Jersey Girl and then Brooklyn, around the neighborhood and chatting with neighbors.

Cynthia loved to travel.  She traveled the globe, making friends and picking up memories to share with others along the way.  She loved to shop and find bargains, which she often gifted to her friends and family.  Cynthia was known for her ability to put together an outfit with perfect attention to color-coordinating every detail. She always had her infectious smile on display.

Cynthia was most proud of being a grandmother.  As Yiayia to Alexander and Evelyn, she knit them beautiful blankets and warm hats, helped care for them as babies while their parents worked and doted on them with love and care.  Special memories were made at home, at parties, and on vacations like Disney World. Yiayia’s love was her greatest gift.

She was the wife of Late - Frank E. Telegadis.

Survivors include, Daughter Tanya (Dmitry) Uritsky of Malvern, PA, Son Peter Telegadis of Phoenixville, PA and her grandchildren Alexander Edward Uritsky and Evelyn Victoria Uritsky.

Along with her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Alexis Irene Telegadis.
