Obituary of Patricia E. McCabe

Patricia E. McCabe, 90, of Norristown, PA passed away peacefully Friday, February 16, 2024.

She was born in Norristown, PA on August 6, 1933, the daughter of the late Joseph (Joe) and the late Emelia (Menendez) Brown.

She was the loving wife of the late Hugh (Hughie) J. McCabe, Jr.

She is survived by one daughter, Marybeth (Jack) Hickey; five sons, Hugh McCabe, Joe McCabe, Michael (Mary) McCabe, Paul (Sherry) McCabe and Patrick (Karen) McCabe; daughter in-law, Kim McCabe; 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Along with her husband and parents, Patty was preceded in death by her son, David McCabe.

Her father, Joe Brown was a beloved high school coach in the Norristown area for many years. Patty and Hughie both graduated from St. Patrick’s High School, where her dad was Hughie’s basketball coach. Hughie gathered the courage to ask the coach’s daughter on a date, and the two went on to become high school sweethearts before being happily married for 68 years.

Throughout her life, Patty was a kind and patient soul who loved people. While she put family first as a devoted wife and loving mother, she also stayed close with many friends and neighbors.

Patty loved talking to people and helping them through her many years of work at the Hallmark Store in King of Prussia. Through her final year, spent at Gwynedd Healthcare in Lansdale, she continued to bring joy to the many residents and staff who loved to see her walking through the hallways, always having a kind word and smile for everyone she saw.

Patty and Hughie were devoted and active members of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. The words of the Prayer of St. Francis are the best summary of how Patty strived to live her life:

Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
in giving of ourselves that we receive,
and in dying that we're born to eternal life.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM from St. Francis of Assisi Church, 600 Hamilton Street, Norristown, PA 19401.  Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Church.

Entombment will take place in St. Patrick Cemetery, East Norriton, PA.

At the Mass, the family will also be remembering Patty’s beloved son and their dear brother, David Charles McCabe, who passed away on October 27, 2023.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to: St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Norristown, PA.
