Obituary of Kenneth T. Ulsh, Sr.
Kenneth T. Ulsh, Sr., of Shannondell at Valley Forge, died on July 3, 2024. Mr. Ulsh had been an advertising agency executive in the Philadelphia area for 50 years holding the posts of President, Marketing Communications Associates (an agency he co-founded in the late 1980s), Executive Vice President of Kelly Michener Inc., Senior Vice President of Winchell Marketing Communications, and Vice President of Richardson, Thomas and Bushman.
During his career, he served dozens of clients including ICI, Sun Refining and Marketing, Airgas, American Cyanamid, Hoeganaes Corporation and Ottens Flavors—enjoying a relationship of 30 and 43 years with the latter two companies, respectively.
As a member of the Business Marketing Association (Philadelphia Chapter), Mr. Ulsh served as president and was a Hall of Fame recipient of that organization. He was also president of the American Marketing Association (Philadelphia Chapter), and a member of the Public Relations Society of America, and the American Powder Metallurgy Institute.
Mr. Ulsh graduated from Drexel University’s School of Business and Administration. While at Drexel, he held the posts of editor-in-chief of the Drexel Triangle, the student newspaper, and president of Alpha Pi Lambda social fraternity. In 1975 he received the Alumni Achievement Award from Drexel’s Student Marketing Society. Immediately following graduation, he served in the Pennsylvania National Guard (103rd Combat Engineers Battalion, Philadelphia) for five years with active-duty stints at Fort Knox, KY and Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
A resident of the King of Prussia for more than 43 years, Mr. Ulsh had been involved in community activities there including the Boy Scouts of America and the Parent Teacher Organization which he headed up. He was also a member of the St. Andrew’s Society of Philadelphia for many years.
Mr. Ulsh is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Mary E. (née Healy); sons Kenneth (Joanne Podolnick), Christopher, and Craig (Isabelle Verret). Sisters Jane Ulsh, Ann Weston and Nancy Mead predeceased him. He also left behind: grandsons Michael, Nicholas and Ryan; and granddaughters Chloe and Morganne.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 10:00 AM in Washington Memorial Chapel, 2000 Valley Forge Road, King of Prussia, PA 19406. Interment will be private at a later date.
