Tribute to my Big Brother:
I am extremely fortunate that God has blessed me with wise mentors throughout my life. The first and the best of those mentors was Harry. My first introduction to Harry was at the Big Brothers Association in downtown Philadelphia. I was around 11-12 (1966-1967), from a broken home, and starting into the realm of a real North Philly punk headed in the wrong direction. Harry was a young college graduate just starting out with a young family.
Harry immediately got connected and engaged in my life. Some of the most notable adventures:
• First college basketball games - cross town rivals between St. Joe’s and Villanova
• First 76’ers game – met Wilt Chamberlain at the Big Brothers event
• First motorboat ride along the Schuylkill River
• First airplane ride in a 4-seater Cessna – abrupt aborted landing, thought “this is it”. Harry smiled and gave me the bag; knowing what was coming next.
But the most memorable moments were spending time with the family at Harry and Nat’s home and sometimes Nat’s parent’s house where I witnessed a welcoming home full of love and peace. I remember playing with Robert and Ray, and Nat’s mom always trying to get me to eat because I was too skinny.
When I was 14, I moved out west with my mom and brother but from time to time I would connect and stay in touch when visiting the area. Oh yes, during one of those visits in my early twenties, he introduced me to Guinness. I took one sip, and he knew I hated it. I’ve since acquired a taste for it and is my favorite.
You all know, Harry had such a contagious, inspiring smile and chuckle, it set his demeanor about life, and it will always be imprinted in my mind forever.
To the Golden family, especially to you Nat, thank you for sharing Harry’s time with me. The impact to my life was and still is immeasurable to me and my entire family.
Harry, until we meet again in Heaven, those pints of Guinness will always be a memorial in your honor.
Thank you, my Big Brother,
Love you!

I am very sorry to hear this news. My sincere condolences to the whole family. My mother would tell me the conversations she would have with you Natalie. I enjoyed hearing them. I remember visiting you and Harry when I was a teenager. We liked your house in Elverson and visited a few times. Being in south Florida for 30 years I’ve been a bit estranged. The last time I was up there for Aunt Mary’s funeral. While it was a very sad time I enjoyed catching up with the family. I also enjoyed visiting Lynn in Jacksonville a few years back. My mom and I want to come up for the service. Please keep us posted.

I am truly sorry to hear of Harry’s passing. I worked with him for over ten years back in the 90’s. I consider him one of the best supervisors I ever had in my 40-year career. He was a mentor to so many people and helped me grow in my profession. He challenged me and other folks on our team to more professional education and was very supportive of me and his entire division.
But most of all I really enjoyed his company and we had many good times working together. He was so funny and quick. I loved his stories about his hobbies, his dog, and his pride in his family.
I know I would have had a much different job experience if I had not had Harry to show me by example what a professional, kind, leader looked like. I know he made a difference on many, many people in our organization and they were fortunate to have him.
May he rest in peace and my deepest condolences to his family.

It was a pleasure to be neighbor with Harry. Every Sunday or weekend. I would go help them with projects around the house. We always had great conversations about anything. He was always a blast to be around with and learn stuff from to that I never knew. Plus the trip to philly that was a blast to do to. Sorry for your lose. thank Harry for being a big part of my life miss you already

Harry was such a great man to work with. His engineering skills helped to guide the Reading QA organization in new directions and put us ahead of many other districts in the use of statistics. I am sure that many corporations improved their performance because of that effort. His leadership in just one part of the Department of Defense has affected thousands of people and helped to protect our country.

I was my great pleasure to have worked with Harry at the Reading and Wyomissing offices in the 90s. He always had a cheerful disposition and was an asset to the Agency. I was deeply touched that he traveled to York in 2019 for my retirement and will remember him fondly.

The world has certainly lost a very special person. It is so difficult to imagine all of us without Harry being present in our lives. Our family has known and loved Harry and his family, since 1959 when we were Freshmen together at Villanova. Around this time, Harry had just met Natalie, and we all became close friends. What a fun-filled time we all had together, over these many, many years. In November of 1963, Jack was Harry’s Best Man in Harry and Nat’s wedding. Five weeks later, Harry returned the favor as Best Man in our December, 1963 wedding.
From our Villanova days up to the present time, it was all fun, laughs and special times together. What wonderful memories we will always have and cherish. Harry was a loyal and terrific friend! We watched our children grow up. We mourned and buried other family members. We remained close and supportive friends. We met regularly with the “Villanova Boys”, i.e., “The Four Roses”. At times, our wives, I.e., “The Rosettes”, joined us. What a happy group we were!
Harry, we will always remember you. You are our dear and much loved friend. Love and peace to you, and your dear family!

Natalie, I have been heartbroken since I heard the news. The last words I heard him say was: "She remembered". Natalie and I had this thing going between us for years, we would send the same birthday card with our sentiment on it back and forth. With Harry breaking his neck I heard him say "she remembered". He had such a sense of humor. We had such a great time playing cards, parties, telling jokes and this went on since 1963. I was blessed to be in their wedding as one of their bridesmaids. Natalie, you were so fortunate in your life having a wonderful husband and your mother, I say to this day how I wish your mom, Mary, was my mother. We used to work together in department stores. I wish you peace and believe that Harry will be waiting for you in Heaven.
He had a great sense of humor. Everyone who knew him loved him. I have some pictures of Harry and you and our family. I wish I was not so far away. Michelle and I will try and make the service in March. Will he be buried with your family in Philadelphia where we used to go? Natalie, nothing I can say could express what I feel about the love Harry had for his life and family. The angels are rejoicing in heaven. One of their angels are coming home. I love you Natalie. I hope one day we can go back sending our birthday cards, Harry would have wanted it too. God bless You, Connie
